Preparing for YDA's Spring Recital
Sunday May 28 at 2 pm and 7 pm is our Spring Recital. All dancers participating in the Recital are expected to attend and take part in their scheduled rehearsal times. Your child will be designated a spot to sit while rehearsal is running and will be expected to stay in that location with their classmates when rehearsing at the studio. Please pay close attention to the schedule as it changes all the time. All rehearsals are mandatory.
Tickets are available for purchase at Th’YARC’s Box office 902-742-8150. Dancers will remain in their dressing room for the duration of the show. I would also suggest some make-up wipes/face cleanser to remove stage make-up prior to meeting with the public.
It is important that the younger students eat their supper prior to coming to rehearsal if possible. Drinks are encouraged, if not a must, but they should be either water or something that won’t stain or cause a huge mess if accidents occur. Also they should bring something to keep them occupied, like colouring books, books to read etc. in case they become bored. They should dress in regular dance class attire and their hair should be up in a bun (for ballet). Sweat tops and pants may be nice to have after they do their dance to keep any chill off (though it is usually warm).
NOTE: All younger students need chaperones (PB1/BT1, PB3, Contemporary 1, 2, 3, Tap 2) in their dressing rooms, a sign-up sheet will be available at the studio in the lobby. If there are no chaperons then there can be no dressing room, if there is no dressing room, they can not prepare for the show, and if they can not prepare for the show they will not be in the show. Please do not drop your child off expecting the chaperons to get their hair and make-up done, you can stay backstage until the show starts to help. If you intend to help please put name on sign up sheet as leaving it to the last minute can cause unnecessary panic.
A Few Recital and Performance Etiquette…
- All students remain backstage until after each performance.
- No student may mix with the audience while she/he is in costume. If photos are wanted they must be done backstage.
- Please do not take flash photos while any of the senior students are dancing en pointe as it may throw the dancer off balance.
- Please no red, purple or orange drinks or anything that might stain the costumes
- Do not eat with costume on or around costume
- Make-up is a must and each student should have their own.
- Put your name on EVERYTHING

Costume Requirements for Spring Recital 2017
All dancers are responsible for their own make-up and hair supplies.
Names should be placed on all dance items
Creative Movement -Dancers can wear whatever they like, they will be performing their sleeping princess dance so they can dress as a princess, or wear full dance outfit (like leotard, tights, tutu/skirt) etc. Hair should be done neatly out of their face, full makeup is not necessary, but a little blush and lip gloss can be fun.
Inspiring Movement - Dancers are to wear black leggings/pants and a coloured t-shirt (shirt must be plain with no designs on it, any colour will do) Hair must be neat and tidy in a bun or pony tail. I would suggest either ballet slippers or tap shoes to be worn (no bare feet for little ones just to keep their feet safe). Full makeup is not necessary, but a little blush and lip gloss can be fun
PB1, BT1, PB3, Pointe Technique, PB4, BT4, JIP, SIP - Dancers are to have thin strap black leotard, ballet tights (with no holes), ballet slippers (with no holes), PB3 dancers in Pointe Technique will require pre-pointe shoes, PB4s will require Pointe shoes.
